Standards Compliance
A quality website should comply with X/HTML, CSS, and other web standards. As web browsers continue to improve, they aim to display web pages according to the standards. Web sites that do not comply with the standards risk displaying incorrectly on future web browsers. Unless there is a specific reason, my web sites are validated X/HTML and CSS compliant which ensures that your website will display properly.
Browser Compatibility
There are a wide variety of web browsers available and each has their own quirks when it comes to displaying web pages. You have probably run across a website that only worked properly in Internet Explorer. At one time, Internet Explorer had over 70% of the web browser market, these days it is closer to 45%. To get the maximum audience I test my websites on Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Google Chrome. These browsers cover approximately 99% of the browser market. Testing ensures that your web site will display properly through the various browsers providing you with a larger audience.
Web Technologies
The computer industry is one of the fastest growing and changing industries. The latest thing today may be obsolete tomorrow. To keep up with these ever changing technologies, it is important to choose carefully what technologies are used. A common pitfall is jumping for the latest and greatest without waiting long enough to see if it stands the test of time. When designing my websites I use tried and true technologies such as PHP, MySQL, and jQuery. The end result is a robust website that can stand the constant changes of the web.
